The Avengers set a new box office record this weekend bringing in $200.3 million. Did you catch it this weekend? Were you satisified? If you didn’t see it yet, do you plan on seeing it? Calling All Teen Writers!

Do you like to write short stories and poems? Would you like a chance to share your orginial writing?

All teens entering grades 6-12 in the 2012-2013 school year are invited to submit their writing in the Akron-Summit County Public Library 2012 Creative Writing Contest. All original entries will be included in the Creative Writing Contest Collection, which is included in the Akron-Summit County Public Library circulating collection. Five winners will be selected to win a Barnes and Noble Gift Card and they may be asked to read their story at a special event at the end of the summer.

Pottermore or Pottersnore?

Pottermore more has gone open to the public! You can relive all your favorite Harry Potter moments from “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”, while reading JK Rowling’s thoughts on elements of the HP world. When you sign up you are given a magical name and you begin to travel through moments in Harry’s life.

Take a trip to Diagon Alley! Stop at Gringott’s to load up on gold! Then purchase all your items for school. Once you’ve gather all your school things, it’s time for one of the most important milestone’s in a young wizard’s life – having a wand choose you at Ollivanders. With wand in tow, you head off to school on the Hogwarts Express. (Be sure to collect those Bertie Botts Ever Flavor Beans and Chocolate Frog cards on the train!)

If you’re curious to see how you would be sorted you have to make it to Chapter 7 before you can put the Sorting Hat on your virtual head. Once you have a house, visit this site to show some House Pride: http://pottermorehousepride.tumblr.com/

It’s fun take a glimpse into JK Rowlings thoughts, and see some scenes be brought to life digitally. We look forward to having the other books released as well. But so far all we’ve done on Pottermore is visit the moments, collect objects, and enter a duel or two. Are we missing out on something awesome? Have you visited Pottermore? What were your thoughts? It’s Teens Rock Akron time! This year’s show will take place on Saturday, April 28th, and it starts at 6pm in the Main Library Auditorium. We have a great variety of music this year.
